President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has praised the strong and close bond between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives, stating that the Saudi government views Maldivians as brothers and sisters.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Maldivian pilgrims in Mecca as part of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are currently in Mecca under the special hospitality of the Saudi King to perform Hajj.

During his visit to Maldivian pilgrims, the President highlighted that the Maldives government is giving high priority to ensuring the best conditions and support for its citizens throughout the pilgrimage.

He noted that both the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Maldives Hajj Corporation are working closely to monitor and address the needs of the pilgrims.

“This time, a special clinic has been arranged with the generous support of the Saudi government. So everything is being arranged in a very thoughtful and well-coordinated manner,” President Muizzu said.

He also noted improvements in accommodations in Mina, stating that the facilities provided this year fall under a “high category” and are far more comfortable compared to previous years.

President Muizzu expressed confidence that this year’s Hajj experience would be significantly smoother for Maldivian pilgrims. He acknowledged the tremendous support provided by the Saudi King and Crown Prince, especially in granting Maldives the opportunity to join the Mecca Route Initiative for the first time.

Through the Mecca Route Initiative, Maldivian pilgrims are able to complete immigration formalities at the departure airport, allowing them to bypass immigration queues upon arrival in Jeddah. Their luggage is also transferred directly to their hotels, and Jeddah airport has arranged special services to accommodate Maldivians.

President Muizzu extended gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on behalf of the Maldivian people for their continued hospitality and care.
