President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that Maldivian pilgrims performing Hajj will now receive free medication following medical consultation, with the initiative taking effect immediately.

The announcement was made during his visit to the hotel in Makkah where Maldivian pilgrims are staying.

President Muizzu said that all required vaccinations and medications for Hajj will be made available free of charge on every inhabited island in the Maldives. To ensure accessibility, facilities necessary for vaccination and medical support will be established at the island level.

During his visit, President Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting pilgrims throughout the entire Hajj journey; from their arrival in Makkah to their return home.

He said that the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Maldives Hajj Corporation are working together closely to cater to the needs of pilgrims at every stage of journey.

He also praised the Saudi government for its extensive preparations for this year’s Hajj season. He highlighted the Makkah Route Initiative, under which Maldivian pilgrims are travelling, as a key factor in enhancing immigration efficiency and easing logistical procedures.

He said that accommodations for Maldivian pilgrims in Mina have been significantly improved this year, and that a dedicated health clinic has been set up exclusively for their use. President Muizzu extended gratitude to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on behalf of the Maldivian people for their continued hospitality and care.

Describing the relationship between Maldives and Saudi Arabia as a close, brotherly bond, President Muizzu said the warmth shown by the Saudi government toward Maldivians is something the nation should take pride in.

President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed met with Maldivian pilgrims during the visit, discussing their experiences and concerns.

A total of 1,000 Maldivians are performing Hajj this year.
