Deputy Commissioner Ismail Naveen, former Acting Police Commissioner Farhad Fikry, and South Police Commander Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Shameem have submitted their candidacy for the position of Police Commissioner.
The deadline for applications closed at 12:00 pm today.
The Ministry of Homeland Security had earlier announced that officers holding the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or higher were eligible to apply for the position.
According to the procedure, the President appoints the Police Commissioner based on the recommendation of the Minister, following a review or interview process conducted by the Police Board on the candidates submitted to the Minister.
The position became vacant following the resignation and retirement of former Commissioner Ali Shujau on May 26. His resignation came amid growing public criticism over the police's handling of the investigation into the fall incident involving Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed from a building in Male'.
Initially, Assistant Commissioner Farhad Fikry was temporarily assigned to the post. However, the Home Ministry later reversed the decision and appointed Deputy Commissioner Ismail Naveen as the temporary head of the police force.
