Electricity restored in large part of Male'

STELCO has stated that electricity has now been restored in a large part of Male', with efforts ongoing to completely resolve the issue.

This includes areas in Henveiru ward of Male' City. STELCO said that power will be restored soon to the remaining areas as well.

Male', Hulhumale' and Velana International Airport had a complete black out around noon today, with STELCO saying it was caused due to a technical issue.

Power was first restored to critical areas, such as Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, meanwhile, called for an investigation into the Greater Male' powercut, adding that the government will work towards ensuring such an incident does not reoccur.

Police have said that they have now commenced an investigation into the matter.
