The Presidential Commission investigating the fall of 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed from a building in Male’ has announced that its final report will be submitted to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu within the next two weeks.
The update was shared via a post on X.
Established on April 26 in response to growing public concern over the police’s handling of the case, the special three-member commission comprises former Attorney General Dr Mohamed Munawwar, Brigadier General (Retd) Ahmed Mohamed, and Dr. Moosa Murad. Additional members include Jabeen Mohamed and Aminath Inaas.
The commission's mandate includes collaborating with foreign experts and authorities, and it has the authority to seek court orders for arrests and initiate criminal investigations.
Yumnu was found injured on the roof of H. Mitaazge after falling from H. Fentenoy on April 26. Raudh Ahmed Zilal, who was last seen with her that night, was arrested, and his case has since been forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office for prosecution.
The group accompanying Yumnu and Raudh earlier that evening included Aishath Layaali Iqbal, Izdhiyan Mohamed Maumoon, Yoosuf Ahmed Akram, Yoosuf Yassaar Abdul Ghafoor, Aminath Junaina Jamsheed, Hussain Haamis Ali, and Ijaaja Jaaiz.
Yumnu was transferred to IGMH hours after the incident and later flown to Malaysia for further treatment. Financial support for her treatment was provided by the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), which granted USD 25,000 (MVR 385,500). Public support through a TikTok live campaign raised over MVR 700,000.
