Aasandha coverage for spectacles to be raised to MVR 2000

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the biennial Aasandha coverage for prescription glasses is to be raised from MVR 1000 to MVR 2000 per person.

Speaking at the ceremony held to mark World Health Day, the President said that this increase would come into effect from June 1 onwards.

The President also said that recent challenges in getting medications through Aasandha has also now been resolved, with the service now available better than before.

He said that the government would ensure medications would be available without interruptions in the future.

President Muizzu said that the government would work towards improving citizens' health and wellbeing through prioritizing citizens and addressing challenges. He said that the main aim of the government is to facilitate seeking top tier medical services within the country.

He highlighted that much has been done over the past months to further improve health services in the country, including developing human resources in the sector.

He asserted that the government is willing to do anything in order to advance health services as national development can only come through health and wellbeing.

The President further noted that the government has taken steps to eradicate preventable diseases, such as the ban of vapes and the generational ban on smoking. He said that these were done in the face of many challenges, but the government had remained steadfast as they prioritized the people.

He asserted that revenue from tobacco tax will be used to improve health services, declaring that the tax will not be decreased. He also called on tobacco sellers to consider adopting other businesses.
