The foreign teacher accused of twisting and dislocating a student's finger at a school in Thaa atoll Kandoodhoo has been arrested.

According to police, the case was reported on Monday and involves an Indian national working as a teacher at the school. The teacher was taken into custody under a court order yesterday.

However, police confirmed that the court has not extended the teacher's remand.

According to the police, the teacher is accused of twisting the student’s finger, resulting in a joint injury. The student received treatment at the Veymandoo Health Centre following the incident on Monday.

However, an education ministry official told Mihaaru News that the incident unfolded when the student hit the teacher on the back with a water bottle during class.

“When the bottle hit him, he turned around and grabbed the student’s finger. That’s what happened,” the official said.

The official also said that the student’s parents entered the school premises during class hours and argued with the teachers using foul language. As a result, this incident is also being reported to the police.
