Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid (Shad) of the People's National Congress (PNC) stated last night that corruption has been “locked” under the current administration, and there is no room for it to occur.

Speaking at a meeting held at the PNC office, Shahid said President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has completely shut down opportunities for corruption and will not allow any such acts to take place during this administration.

“With this government, corruption has been locked up. There is no chance for it to take place. How can it happen? There is no window for it,” Shahid said.

“Corruption has been disallowed. Through Parliament, we have stopped it-locked it. The key will be in the hands of Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.”

He dismissed the opposition’s allegations of corruption as false and accused them of trying to sow discord between the government and the public. Shahid claimed that these efforts had failed.

He also addressed the economic challenges faced at the start of President Muizzu’s term, saying fears of rumors of Maldives going bankrupt had now subsided thanks to the President’s “far-sightedness and hard work.”

Expressing continued confidence in the government’s development plans, Shahid said he believes President Muizzu will fulfill his pledges made to Addu City.

“This is not impossible. Bridges will be built. Airports will be built. Stations will be built. Runways will be built. Fire trucks will be acquired. There will be ice plants. Fish processing factories. Housing. The cabinet has the capacity [to achieve these goals],” he said.
