A flight on which Maldives' Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef was travelling had to make an emergency landing due to a bomb threat. The VP then continued his travel on a different flight.

As per foreign news reports, there was a bomb threat last Tuesday on a United Airlines widebody Boeing 777 flight flying from Honolulu, Hawaii to Los Angeles.

After the flight made an emergency landing, VP Latheef shifted to another flight for the rest of his travel back to Maldives.

The incident occurred while VP Latheef was flying back to Maldives after an official trip to Hawaii on invitation from Blue Planet Alliance.

A writing declaring there was a bomb on board was found stuck on the mirror in the flight's restroom.

In a statement, United Airlines said that the flight carrying 339 passengers and 10 crew had safely landed in Honolulu.

America's FBI is conducting investigations in to the incident.
