Applications open for post of Police Commissioner

Applications are open effective today for the post of Commissioner of Police.

Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology announced today that that applications for the post must be sent in before 12pm on June 2.

Those at and above the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police are eligible for the post.

A Commissioner of Police will be appointed by the President on the advice of the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology.

The post of Commissioner of Police became vacant following the resignation of former Commissioner Ali Shujau last month. Shujau's resignation came in the wake of heavy public criticism against Police regarding their handling of the case of Hawwa Yumn Rasheed's fall from a building on April 18.

On Shujau's resignation, Assistant Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry was made Interim Commissioner. However, about an hour later, the decision was revised, and Assistant Commissioner Ismail Naveen was instead appointed to the position.
