A fire broke out last night at Mathikilhi Eco Garden in Meedhoo, Addu City, with the managing society alleging it was a deliberate act of arson.

The Mathikilhi Society said that a fire erupted in the early hours of today, this time on the south side of the Eco Garden’s entry walkway.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue Service responded and brought the blaze under control.

In a statement posted on social media, the society said it believed the fire was set intentionally, calling it an “alleged attempt to damage the Eco Garden.”

The group urged authorities to investigate and take swift action against those responsible.

“We call on authorities to investigate and take action against those who commit such acts,” the statement read.

This is not the first time the Eco Garden has been targeted. A fire in March destroyed a large section of the grassland, which has since been replanted by the society.
