Maldives and India have agreed to push forward with goals outlined in a new framework for bilateral ties, following the second meeting of the Maldives-India High-Level Core Group in New Delhi.

The Maldivian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel. The talks are part of the ongoing implementation of "A Vision for Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership", a joint initiative launched during President Mohamed Muizzu’s first state visit to India in October last year.

The first Core Group meeting was held in Male' on January 29.

The latest round of discussions focused on reviewing progress made since the initial meeting and identifying further areas for cooperation. These include transport, agriculture, fisheries, the economy, health, defence and maritime security.

The Maldivian delegation included senior officials from the President’s Office, and the ministries of Defence, Finance, Housing, Economic Affairs, and Homeland Security and Technology.

Ties between Maldives and India had grown strained in the early days of President Muizzu’s administration. However, relations have since improved, with both sides engaging in high-level meetings and visits aimed at restoring and strengthening cooperation.
