A new 14 bed Emergency Room has been opened at Hulhumale' Hospital yesterday, aimed to increase capacity.
The Emergency Room was officially inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at a special ceremony held yesterday.
The new Emergency Room is equipped with 14 emergency beds with modern facilities and a resus for critical cases.
Although the number of people who sought services at Hulhumale' Hospital's ER and GOPD crossed 250,000, the hospital has been providing service so far with just seven beds in the ER.
Speaking at yesterday's ceremony, Male' Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem said that the government's efforts to further develop Hulhumale' Hospital has led to a significant decrease in the number of Hulhumale' residents who need to go to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital for health services.
He said that the biggest challenge to date had been space constraints in the ER, stating that the new ER will contribute immensely towards resolving this.

Expansion of the ER was contracted to RDC in November last year.
Hulhumale' Hospital caters to about 300,000 patients per year.
The government is also working on building a 250 bed hospital at the land where Hulhumale' Hospital is located. In addition to this, a 15 storey building is also being constructed adjacent to the current six storey building.
The government has also expanded services at Hulhumale' Hospital, raising it to a tertiary hospital level last November.
