More than 600 individuals have applied to join the National Service Program introduced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, reflecting strong public interest in the initiative.

According to the latest figures, a total of 658 applications have been received ahead of the June 1 deadline.

Notably, 316 applicants are under the age of 18 and have applied with parental consent.

President Muizzu said that the high turnout, including participation from minors with parental support is an indication of public trust and support for the program. He added that the initiative aims to cultivate a generation of disciplined and hardworking youth.

President Muizzu emphasized that individuals who successfully complete the program will have the opportunity to join the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) or Maldives Police Service.

He expressed confidence that the program would significantly reduce the number of youth engaged in street crime.

He also noted that a dedicated law governing the National Service Program will be enacted soon. Once finalized, the legislation will outline key details of the initiative, including the provision of a monthly allowance for participants.

“We are finalizing the arrangements. Our goal is to offer an allowance of approximately MVR 6,000 once the program begins,” President Muizzu stated.
