Man arrested for cutting cables remanded for 10 days

Criminal Court has placed Ismail Sameem in remand in custody for a period of 10 days.

Sameem, 29, Naseemee Villa, Sh. Milandhoo, was arrested for cutting the cables in an electricity box providing electricity to a number of residences and opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s hub.

The damage to the cables led to power interruption in seven residential buildings.

The cables were cut a time when MDP was preparing to commence a rally from their party hub. There is speculation that the act was carried out in order to obstruct MDP's activities.
