President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated last night that the ongoing Maldives Expo 2025 demonstrates that the hopes of achieving 15 percent of GDP through the creative economy can be swiftly achieved.

The presidential manifesto states that ahead of 2030, 15 percent of Maldives' GDP will be generated through the creative industry.

On his second visit to the Expo, which commenced on Saturday, the President granted an interview to State TV PSM where he said that the expo indicates the immense support that exists for Maldives' creativity and innovation.

Last night, the President visited the IT and Digital area stalls at the expo, where he said that the exhibits make evident the rising interest in the digital sector. He said that this gives hope that the pledge in his manifesto can be achieved ahead of 2030.

"It is an important pledge in my manifesto to create a digital creative economy. I have announced to make 15 percent of GDP from creative industry contributions by 2030. Considering the interest we are seeing here, this can be achieved even before then," he said.

The President said that the government is working towards providing opportunities for skilled individuals. This includes establishing payment gateways and facilitating means of marketing products locally and internationally, he said.

The President noted that there are such opportunities at Velana International Airport as well, referring to the Authentic Maldives platform.

President Muizzu went on to say that Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has been instructed to organize a detailed cabinet meeting on exploring further avenues of support.

The digital creations exhibits are a new edition to the Maldives Expo. Maldives Expo 2025 will be open to the public until the end of the month and is being held at Hulhumale' Central Park.
