National Integrity Commission (NIC) has said that they have received 50 cases so far this year, with more than half of these now concluded.
Information gained by Mihaaru News through a Right to Information (RTI) request, NIC - which looks into cases against all uniformed bodies except MNDF - received 50 cases by the end of April. These include cases submitted by the public, as well as those taken up by the commission on their own initiative.
Of these, the commission has completed investigations into 27 cases, the response provided last Wednesday states.
At the end of last year, the NIC had 118 cases in progress. Along with 126 newly submitted cases, last year saw the conclusion of 127 cases. In 2023, 149 cases were reported, while the previous year saw 207 cases concluded. In 2022, 175 new cases were submitted. At the end of that year, a total of 237 cases, including some submitted in previous years, was completed.
The commission looks into cases against Police, Immigration, Customs and Correctional Service.
Of these, the highest number of cases were submitted against the Police.
At the end of 2024, 103 cases were submitted against Police, with another 10 taken up by the commission on their own initiative. Of these, 91 cases were concluded, and advice was provided in 23 cases.
Correctional Services had 18 cases submitted against them, with 2 cases taken on by the Commission proactively. Including past cases, a total of 31 cases were concluded, and advice provided in 9 cases.
