Dinghy and speedboat collision near Gaaerifalhu leaves five injured

A serious accident occurred near Lhaviyani Atoll Gaaerifalhu a little after midnight, injuring five people after a dinghy collided with a speedboat.

The incident was reported to authorities at 12:33 am on Wednesday. According to Maldives Police Service, five individuals sustained injuries, with one in critical condition.

Police said that all the injured were taken to Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital for treatment. The most seriously injured person was later transferred to Male' by air ambulance for further medical care.

“The dinghy was damaged beyond repair in the collision,” police said in a message shared with the press.

A hospital official from Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital said that the four others who were injured remain in stable condition despite sustaining various levels of injury.
