MI College has donated 6,000 trees to local councils and schools across the Maldives in support of the government’s nationwide five million trees programme.
At a special ceremony held last Saturday, the trees were officially handed over by MI College Chairman and CEO Ahmed Mottaki.
The donation is part of the college’s commitment to contribute to environmental protection and sustainability.
“MI College is working for the country, to make the children of this country competent,” Mottaki said.
“We need to plant trees and protect the environment for future generations.”
Each participating council will receive three "Spanish cherry" trees.
In total, 17 councils and several private associations received trees as part of this donation.
The college also confirmed that the opportunity remains open for other councils in need of trees.
The five million tree initiative was launched by the government on Environment Day last year as part of efforts to combat climate change and promote environmental stewardship.
Several government agencies and state-owned enterprises have since taken part in planting trees across the country.
