Practical work on a new building for Meemu atoll Muli Hospital has begun on Tuesday.
The initiative was launched following a special ceremony led by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The project, awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), will see the development of a four-storey, 50-bed hospital.
The contract was signed on April 20 last year, and the project will be funded through the state budget at MVR 185 million.
According to the government, the decision to construct a new facility was made due to the deteriorating condition of the current hospital building.
