Maldives signs climate pact with Blue Planet Alliance to advance renewable energy

Maldives has signed a non-binding agreement with the Blue Planet Alliance (BPA), reaffirming its commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.

The signing took place on May 19, during the Blue Planet Alliance Fellowship Programme in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef signed the agreement on behalf of Maldives, with BPA founder Henk Rogers signing on behalf of the organization.

Dubbed the "Blue Planet Climate Agreement", the document emphasizes the vital importance of renewable energy in tackling the climate crisis and acknowledges the Maldives’ determination to meet its ambitious renewable energy targets.

The agreement also formalizes Maldives’ status as an official member of the Blue Planet Alliance.

The pact aims to strengthen collaboration between Maldives and BPA in promoting and accelerating the deployment of clean energy technologies, supported through international cooperation.

Vice President Latheef is currently in Hawaii on an official visit, attending the BPA Fellowship Programme alongside representatives from government agencies, utility providers, and civil society organizations.
