More than 53,000 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 120,000 wounded since the start of Israel’s offensive in Gaza on 7 October, according to health authorities in the territory.
The conflict follows decades of displacement and occupation, with many referencing the 1948 Nakba as the start of Palestine’s dispossession.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he is open to a deal to end the war but insists any agreement must include the release of all Israeli hostages held in Gaza and a ceasefire.
