Maldives Development Bank has denied allegations made by its former CEO and Managing Director, Noel Gregory Patterson Jones, that he was not paid his salary and benefits, stating that he received full compensation up until his resignation.

The statement follows a complaint Noel filed with the Employment Tribunal on April 7, claiming unpaid dues.

However, the Tribunal dismissed the case on May 7, citing procedural issues. According to the Tribunal, the complaint was rejected because Noel, a foreign national who does not speak Dhivehi, failed to arrange for a translator within the allotted time.

In its statement, Development Bank said that Noel submitted his resignation to the Privatization and Corporatization Board on March 20, and it was accepted effective from that date.

The bank also noted that he had left the country days prior and had not engaged in any activities on behalf of the institution after tendering his resignation.

The bank said that the CEO’s resignation was not related to any payment dispute and assured that he was compensated in full in accordance with his contract. The matter, it said, is now in the hands of its legal team.

A new CEO and Managing Director are currently being appointed, the bank added.
