President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that empowering families, improving self-sufficiency, and raising living standards are key drivers for faster national progress.

He shared these remarks in a message on X to mark the International Day of Families.

President Muizzu extended his wishes for prosperity and well-being to all Maldivian families, emphasizing Islam’s strong focus on family unity and its connection to national development.

Maldives has long recognized the vital role that families play in the nation’s social development, President's office said.

National development plans include initiatives such as the Aasandha healthcare system, expanded Child and Social Protection Services, financial support for single parents, and extended paid maternity leave (six months for mothers and one month for fathers).

These efforts aim to strengthen the family unit, considered the foundation of society, and ensure children grow up healthy, well-educated, and able to contribute to the nation.

Additionally, the government is preparing to establish a dedicated hospital for women and children within this term, President's Office website states.
