Hanimaadhoo Airport: 83 percent completed, project set to conclude in July

Eighty-three percent of the development work at Haa Dhaalu atoll Hanimaadhoo International Airport in has been completed.

Regional Airports which operates Hanimaadhoo Airport said that the marks a significant milestone in the project, which is one of the largest airport developments currently underway in Maldives.

The airport is being developed with assistance from India under an USD 800 million line of credit extended by the Exim Bank of India.

In a press conference held on May 3, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said that the airport project is on track for completion by July 31.

Awarded to India's Kalpataru Projects in September 2022, the development includes the construction of a new 2.7 kilometre runway capable of accommodating large aircraft, a passenger terminal with an annual capacity of 1.3 million passengers, an air traffic control tower, a cargo terminal, and a fuel farm.

The new runway has already been completed, Regional Airports said.
