Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel met with Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah and his Kuwaiti counterpart, Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, during his official visit to Kuwait, reaffirming the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Maldives and Kuwait.
The meeting marked 48 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Minister Khaleel highlighted the deep-rooted brotherly relations based on mutual respect and shared Islamic values. Both ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation in key areas including tourism, trade, investment, renewable energy, health, aviation, and people-to-people exchanges.
Minister Khaleel expressed gratitude for Kuwait’s continued support in the Maldives’ socio-economic development, noting the vital role played by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) in major projects such as the Velana International Airport expansion and health sector initiatives.
He emphasized the Maldives’ interest in expanding cooperation, particularly in infrastructure and renewable energy.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing confidence in the continued growth of the Maldives-Kuwait partnership.
Minister Khaleel was accompanied by Joint Secretary Khadeeja Najeeha and Political Director Fathimath Nasha Ismail.
