TV presenter Moosa Rilwan has been appointed as a member of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom), following a vote in Parliament.
Rilwan’s appointment fills the vacancy left by the resignation of former commission member Mohamed Fazeen.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had nominated a total of 10 candidates for the position.
After interviews conducted by the relevant committee, five candidates scored above the 75 percent threshold required for recommendation.
The top five scorers were:
1. Zeena Zahir – 85.13 percent
2. Aishath Shiyana – 83 percent
3. Shimla Ahmed – 82 percent
4. Moosa Rilwan – 81 percent
5. Zam’ath Ahmed Waheed – 77.5 percent
Despite receiving the highest marks, Zeena Zahir, along with Shiyana and Shimla, failed to secure enough votes on the Parliament floor. In contrast, Moosa Rilwan was approved with 70 votes. A vote was not taken for Zam’ath Ahmed Waheed.
Moosa Rilwan brings years of media experience to the role, having served as a producer and presenter at state broadcaster TVM. He currently works as a communications officer at the Ministry of Housing.
President Muizzu has also sent a separate list of candidates for another vacant seat on Broadcom. That list includes the top five candidates, along with Ali Yoosuf.
Topping the President’s list is Zam’ath Ahmed Waheed, who served in media for many years.
