Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced the launch of a new course aimed at training island councilors to deliver sermons to address the shortage of qualified Khutbah speakers across Maldives.

Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed shared the news through the ministry’s media group, stating that a three-month Khatib course will be conducted through the Quran Center.

The course is designed to equip councilors with essential knowledge in fiqh, Quran, Aqeeda, and Hadith.

Each batch of the program will accommodate 50 councilors, with quran lessons conducted either in Male' or through the Quran Center’s atoll branches.

Minister Shaheem added that the program will be led by experienced scholars.

Enrollment for the course opens on June 1.

A similar program had been launched last year by the ministry to train school students as imams.
