Ministry of Foreign Affairs has denied reports suggesting that the Singaporean government has issued a travel advisory cautioning its citizens against visiting Maldives.

In a press release, the ministry clarified that claims published in some Maldivian media outlets alleging that Singapore advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the Maldives are false.

The ministry confirmed that the Singaporean government had communicated with Maldives and affirmed that no such advisory has been issued in recent times.

"The statement being circulated on social media is not a recent appeal from the Singapore government," the ministry stated.

Emphasizing the potential consequences of spreading misinformation, the ministry warned that the dissemination of false information regarding countries that maintain friendly relations with the Maldives could negatively impact both the nation’s people and its economy.

The ministry urged media outlets and the public to act responsibly and refrain from sharing unverified claims, especially those involving international partners.
