Criminal Court has extended the remand of Raudh Ahmed Zilal, 21, by five additional days in connection with the investigation into the fall of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed from a building in Male'.
This is the third extension of his remand since his arrest on April 24.
Yumnu, 21, was found seriously injured on the roof of a warehouse at H. Mitaaz on April 18. Police said she fell through a fanlight on the 9th floor stairwell of the adjacent H. Fentenoy.
Raudh was arrested on charges of possible involvement in Yumnu's fall, being intoxicated at the time of the incident, and use for sexual purposes.
While police stated earlier that no one else was believed to be involved, they later revealed that seven other individuals, including two nephews of Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen, were with Yumnu that night. All except Raudh refused to provide urine samples. Their phones have been seized and a travel ban imposed, but further details of the investigation have not been disclosed.
Authorities were unable to retrieve CCTV footage from Maandhooge Dhekunuge, Minister Ameen’s residence, where the group initially gathered.
Yumnu, who suffered critical injuries, has been transported to Malaysia for further treatment. Her family said that she underwent a major surgery successfully.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed a presidential commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
