Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has canceled a job posting that drew criticism for offering a high salary despite low academic requirements.
The job posting announced last Wednesday offered a monthly salary of MVR 25,000, along with a research allowance of MVR 5,000. The position involved coordinating efforts related to the conservation and revitalization of Maldivian nationalism, including collecting, learning, researching, and presenting information.
The minimum qualifications required for the post included a "D" grade in at least two secondary-level subjects and a "C" grade in Dhivehi, along with three years of administrative experience and an interest in the field.
Applicants also needed to be under the age of 35 and proficient in reading, writing, and presenting in both Dhivehi and English.
The listing sparked criticism over the government's decision to offer high-paying roles to candidates with minimal academic credentials. In response to the backlash, the ministry canceled the announcement yesterday at 1:22 pm.
The job's responsibilities included researching and verifying Dhivehi-language materials, contributing to publication efforts, increasing Dhivehi-based products, and supervising other staff members.
The application deadline for the posting had been set for May 15.
