National flag carrier, Maldivian, has decided to operate its inaugural flight to M. Muli Airport on May 17.

Maldivian, which is operated by Island Aviation, revealed in the post on social media that one way ticket prices would be for MVR 1,377 for a 35 minute flight.

According to the airline's schedule, one flight would be operated to Muli on Saturday of every week, departing from Velana International Airport at 03:30 pm, and leaving Muli at 04:45 on its return journey.

Booking is now open for these flights to Muli Airport, which is operated by Regional Airports Company Limited. It is also the first airport in Meemu atoll.

The Airport was first started to be developed in August 2021 during former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's Administration. The project was completed and the first test flight was operated to the airport on April 25.

Regional Airports Company Limited earlier said that domestic airlines, Villa and Manta would also be able to fly to the destination once commercial operations start at the airport.

As part of the Muli Airport development project, 14 hectares of land were reclaimed, and a beach area stretching across 1,812 metres was protected, along with the development of a 1,200 metre long and 30 metre wide runway.

The Maldivian government spent MVR 225 million on the project.
