283 students apply for third round of youth Khateeb training

Islamic Ministry has revealed that more than 280 students applied for the third batch of the youth khateeb training programme.

Islamic Ministry has revealed that more than 280 students applied for the third batch of the youth khateeb training programme.

This programme is organised by the government to train children below the age of 18 and those who have completed school to deliver sermons and lead Friday prayers, eventually getting them licensed.

While two batches of khateebs have completed their training programme, applications for the third batch is still open.

Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said the total number of students who applied for the third batch is at 283.

Application for the programme closes on Saturday.

It was previously revealed that the government aims to train more than 1,000 Hafiz's within five years. Currently there are 266 Hafizs in Maldives, including 126 women and 140 men.
