To address difficulties in sourcing some medications for Maldives, STO has entered an agreement with a company run by the Indian government.

The Indian company that the agreement was signed with is HLL Lifecare Ltd, run under India's Health and Family Welfare.

STO said that under this agreement, medicines will be brought into Maldives without interruption and at affordable prices under India's Janaushadhi scheme.

STO said that the agreement had been entered into to bring a permanent solution to medicine shortage in Maldives. Maldives has been facing a shortage of many key medicines, posing challenges to the public and health system.

STO said that a temporary solution had been found for the shortage of basic medicines, with this agreement working to ensure there are no more shortages.

They said that all medicines will be within WHO standards and conform with local regulations on importing medicine.

STO has worked with HLL previously as well, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
