President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that running of the Thalassemia Centre is going to be transferred under Male' Group of Hospitals.

Speaking on his 'Rayyithunnaa Eku' podcast today, the President highlighted that spacious, new premises have been allocated today for the Thalassemia Centre in order to address concerns raised by patients. He said that the Finance Ministry has been instructed to acquire all necessary resources for the centre.

The President further said that an additional twelve staff members are being hired for the centre, now located at Orange Hiyaa in Hulhumale' Phase 1.

Until now, the Thalassemia Centre was directly under the oversight of the Health Ministry. President Muizzu stated that it is being transferred under Male' Group of Hospitals to manage it like a hospital.

"I am doing this for a very important purpose. It is a suggestion I got from thalassemia children as well, that this is an important step towards improving the services provided to them from the centre. When I though about it, it really is a good thing to do," the President said.

Currently, Male' Group of Hospitals has Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Hulhumale' Hospital and ViliMale' Hospital under them.

The President said that this transfer will bring benefits to Thalassemia patients, such as ease in consulting specialists.

He said that administrative changes are now underway, with the Male' Group of Hospitals expected to take over Blood Service within the next ten days.
