The Presidential Commission investigating the case of Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, who fell from a building in Male' on April 26, has launched a portal for the public to share any relevant information.
The commission announced via its new X account that individuals with photos, videos, or other documents related to the incident are encouraged to submit them through the portal.
Additionally, the portal which is accessible via e-Faas login can be used to ask questions regarding the commission’s ongoing work.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu established the commission to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Yumnu's fall.
Initially formed with three members, the commission was reconstituted after orthopedic surgeon Dr Mohamed Habeeb resigned.
The current commission includes:
- Dr Mohamed Munavvar, former Attorney General (Chair)
- Brigadier General (Retired) Ahmed Mohamed
- Dr Moosa Murad
- Jabeen Mohamed
- Aminath Eenaas
During its first press conference held on April 30, Commission Chair Munavvar said that while the commission's specific mandate may appear vague, its primary aim is to achieve justice.
He stated that since the Maldives Police Service is also conducting an investigation, the commission would begin by reviewing the police's findings to avoid duplicating efforts.
He added that the President's resolution did not clarify whether the commission would override or run parallel to the police investigation, and final decisions regarding such overlaps would be made by the President and the relevant minister.
Yumnu was initially treated at IGMH before being transferred to Malaysia for further medical care.
Her overseas treatment was partly funded by a USD 25,000 grant from the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), with additional support raised by the public with over MVR 700,000 through TikTok live sessions.
