President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that children with thalassemia have equal access to rights and opportunities available in Maldives.
In a message marking World Thalassaemia Day, President Muizzu urged the public to reflect this principle through both action and advocacy.
Highlighting the scale of the issue, he said Maldives has one of the highest rates of thalassemia in the world relative to population size.
He called for greater public awareness and improved access to treatment nationwide, and stressed the responsibility of relevant authorities to prioritize consistent care for affected patients.
President Muizzu reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfilling pledges made during the 2023 presidential campaign regarding the care and support of individuals with thalassemia.
He pledged concrete steps to resolve long-standing challenges and deliver meaningful improvements to the lives of children and families affected.
He also encouraged the public to donate blood, describing it as an act of compassion and spiritual fulfilment. The President called on Maldivians to show solidarity and kindness to all those living with the condition.
In a social media post shared alongside his official message, President Muizzu emphasized the need to ensure that children with thalassemia are treated without discrimination and given equal opportunities to thrive. Realizing their aspirations, he said, would mark significant national progress.
