Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Ministry of Social and Family Development has decided to host a special "Family Carnival" This Saturday to mark 21 years since Hulhumale' was first inhabited.
HDC said in a statement today that the event is an opportunity to bring together families living in Hulhumale' for an afternoon of fun and community bonding.
The Family Carnival will take place from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Hulhumale' Central Park.
The event promises a wide range of activities for children and families including a special performance by Roboman, various activities, game stalls and inflatable carnival games.
There will also be a booth for families to take 360° photos and videos during the event and free dental checkups will be offered to all attendees.
Other activities at the carnival include a foam party, a fire vehicle (for photos) and a traffic park.
The carnival is held with support from Island Beverages Maldives Pvt Ltd, which will also host a special event during the festivities.
Additional support is provided by the Maldives Police Service, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Health Protection Agency (HPA), Tree Top Hospital, Thalassemia Society, Maldives Islamic Bank, MOMS NGO, Kids Zone, Do Good NGO, and the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM).
HDC will also hold a colorful festival to mark the 21st anniversary of Hulhumale' on May 12. HDC said that event, dubbed 'My Hulhumale' Festival' would be held for one week from May 10 onwards and will be held in different areas of Hulhumale'.
People first inhabited Hulhumale' on May 12, 2004, following the artificial island's reclamation.
The Hulhumale' Project was launched in 1997 by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom to solve the housing problem faced in Male'. The first phase of the project was inaugurated on October 16, 1997 by Maumoon.
