MET Office has predicted widespread rain across Maldives today and tomorrow.
A MET Office official stated that this marks the end of 'Iruvai' [northeast monsoon] and the approach of 'Hulhan'gu' [southwest monsoon].
Heavy rains are expected over these two days, with the weather set to clear on Friday.
Continuous rain in Male' City since last night has led to most streets being flooded, posing difficulties for pedestrians.
At present, MET Office has issued two weather alerts. A Yellow Alert has been issued from Raa atoll to Alif Dhaalu Atoll, where heay rains and thunderstorms are expected.
A White Alert has also been issued from Gaafu Alif atoll to Addu, where strong winds of 19 to 24 mph with gusts of 40 mph are expected, with the sea rough.
