Police search 8 locations, question 8 people in Baarah over sorcery allegations

Police have searched eight locations and questioned eight individuals in Haa Alifu atoll Baarah in connection with allegations of practicing sorcery.

According to a police statement issued to the media, the operation was carried out this morning following a tip-off from police intelligence. The operation began at 7 am, during which officers conducted searches across eight locations.

Items believed to be linked to sorcery were confiscated from these locations.

All eight individuals detained during the operation were later released after questioning.

Police have not disclosed further details, and said that the investigation is ongoing.

Earlier on February 20, police searched 10 houses and recovered paraphernalia allegedly used in sorcery from eight of them in Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi.

No arrests were made at the time, and no additional information was shared with the media.
