Terrorism is an ideological disease with no ties to any religion, and its cure lies in spreading accurate knowledge based on Islamic principles, said Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
The minister made the remarks at the opening ceremony of a capacity-building program for imams and scholars, jointly organized by the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) and the Maldives’ National Counter Terrorism Center.
"This is a very important forum," Minister Shaheem said, adding that Islam calls for kindness, mercy, and justice in dealing with everyoneMuslims and non-Muslims alike.
Emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between jihad and terrorism, Minister Shaheem stated.
"We must know the difference between Jihad and terrorism. Shari’ah has prescribed certain principles for Jihad. And it has not left the matter at the hands of individuals. Rather, it’s the duty of the state and Hakim (ruler). The wisdom of the Jihad is protecting the nation and its people. Islam has forbidden terrorism in its all forms," he said.
The minister said Maldives has been fighting against terrorism and extremism. He said the cooperation between Maldives and Saudi Arabia can together reach many milestones in this regard.
