Foreign Secretary Inaya resigns

Maldives' first female Foreign Secretary, Fathimath Inaya, has resigned.

In a message sent to Foreign Ministry staff informing them of her resignation, Inaya stated that although she is no longer in the post of Foreign Secretary, she will remain as Secretary of the Ministry.

It is so far unclear whether she was removed from the position or resigned of her own volition.

Inaya was appointed as Foreign Secretary in December 2023. Prior to that, she served as a Deputy Minister.

She was a Deputy Minister at Foreign Ministry even during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen. She worked at Transparency Maldives before returning to the Foreign Ministry again.

Inaya holds a Masters degree in International Relations and Affairs from Australia's Sydney University.
