President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the upcoming launch of the Maldives National Service Programme, a government initiative aimed at empowering youth through structured training and skill development.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, the President said that a special law to govern the programme will soon be passed.
Speaking during a presentation highlighting government work progress, President Muizzu said that the initiative is designed for Maldivians aged 16 to 18 who have completed their O-Level examinations but are not yet employed.
President Muizzu described the programme as a "golden opportunity" to equip young people with essential life and workforce skills.
“We are finalising the legal framework, and once the programme begins, we plan to offer a monthly allowance of around MVR 6,000 to participants,” the President said.
In addition to a stipend, the programme will include military training, ethics, and other modules aimed at fostering discipline and preparing youth for participation in society.
“This is a very important opportunity to increase our workforce and invest in the potential of our youth,” President Muizzu added.
The deadline to apply for the first round of the National Service Programme is set for June 1 at 12:00 noon.
