Unions and associations collaborated to hold a march in Male' City today on the occasion of International Labour Day, advocating for the protection of workers' rights.

Police had granted permission to hold the May Day rally by unions and associations. The permit allowed them to march down one lane of Majeedhee Magu, from Artificial Beach to Rasfannu Beach.

However, soon after the rally commenced, Police notified through a letter that this decision had been changed. They then asked for the march to proceed from Rasfannu Beach, on to Ameenee Magu.

This led to heated exchanges between Police and rally organizers, with Police obstructing the rally. Police placed barricades blocking the streets in an attempt to stop the rally from proceeding. Confrontation with Police led to some of the marchers falling.

Ultimately, organizers decided to follow Police's new instructions, and proceed the march on Ameenee Magu.

The demonstration called for the State to guarantee workers' rights.
