Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has opened up opportunities to do medical internships at the hospital.

According to the hospital's announcement, 15 medical officers would get the opportunity to intern at the hospital during the first intake.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply before May 15, attaching an attested letter of MBBS completion issued by a medical college or university. The letter must also be accredited by Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA), the hospital said.

Additional requirements include a police clearance certificate and the certificate of provisional medical registration issued by the Maldives Medical and Dental Council.

Applications can be submitted via email or by directly submitting the required documents to the hospital's administrative office.

If more than 15 candidates apply, priority would be given to applicants who had completed their MBBS first, the hospital said.

According to the regulations by the Maldives Medical Council, a medical practice license would only be issued after 5-6 years of studies and one year of internship.

The government of Maldives requested ADK Hospital, in Malé, to start an internship at the hospital after Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)'s programme started to get an overwhelming demand. ADK now runs an internship programme for 20 doctors with a monthly fee of MVR 14,500.

IGMH's internship programme started in 2018. At the moment, there are 60 doctors completing their internship at the hospital.
