Ministry of Education is looking into an incident where a first grader left school during school hours on their own.

The case involves a key stage 1 student at a Hulhumale' school leaving alone through the gate used by teachers during school hours.

In a post on Facebook, Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu said that the issue had come to the attention of the ministry at around 3:11pm yesterday.

Efforts by the Ministry, school, and Police had found the student at around 3:30pm and no harm had come to the student, he said.

"I am saying this for two reasons. the first is, I want to highlight that when an incident such as this occurs, it is important for all concerned to work together to resolve it instead of concealing the matter," he wrote.

"While the teachers' gate in this school is supposed to be locked, or have someone guarding it, we will look into how it was possible for a student to leave through it and take actions to ensure such an incident is not repeated."
