President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Aishath Asna Hamdhy for the post of deputy governor at Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
The nomination has been submitted to parliament and is on the agenda for today's sitting. It will be referred to the relevant committee for review.
Asna is currently the managing director of MMA and oversees its financial sector division. She has worked at MMA for around 15 years.
The position of managing director was created as part of structural reforms introduced under Governor Ahmed Munawwar.
Under the new structure, managing directors are responsible for overseeing individual departments within the agency, with appointments made for two five-year terms.
The deputy governor role became vacant following the resignation of Ahmed Imaadh in March last year. He held the position for about five years and had served at the MMA for 25 years.
