Oil spill in Rasfannu beach area, Police advise against swimming

Police have advised against swimming at the Rasfannu Beach as there is currently an oil spill in the area.

In a post on X, Police said that they are investigating the issue of an oil spill at Rasfannu. The area is being monitored and the matter investigated through collaboration with other relevant institutions, they said.

It is so far unclear how the oil spill occurred. It is believed that the oil may have washed up on the shore after having been spilled in the deeper ocean.

Police advised the public to refrain from swimming in the area.

In 2023, an oil spill occurred in the north habour of Male' City. That time, MNDF managed to clear over 15 drums of oil from the area over two days' efforts.
