Fire incident at STELCO: smokestack on main engine catches fire

A fire incident occurred at the State Electric Company (STELCO) this morning, when the smokestack on a main engine in the powerhouse caught fire.

No persons were injured in the incident.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said that they received reports of the incident at 6:19am today.

A smokestack on one of the main engines in the powerhouse caught fire, MNDF said, confirming that firefighters had put the fire out by 6:30am.

There are no reports of power interruption due to this incident.
