Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has said today that 10 percent of RasMale' - aimed to address housing difficulties in the Male' region - has now been reclaimed.

HDC said that for RasMale', the first ecocity in Fushidhiggaru Falhu, a total of 1009 hectares will be reclaimed. With over a year having passed since the project was initiated, 10 percent, or 101 hectares, have now been reclaimed.

The company said that reclamation of 29 hectares of land from Site J under Capital Marine and Investment (CMC) and 72 hectares of land from Sites D, F, G, and L under MM Export have been completed.

Preparations are now underway for taking shore protection measures, they said.

In light of climate change and for prevention from erosion, Fushidhiggaru Falhu is being reclaimed to 2.5 metres above sea level, which is 0.5 metres higher than Hulhumale'.
